How To Beat The Qantas Frequent Flyer Qantas Points Increases
On 5 August 2025, in just over 4 months, Qantas is changing the number of Qantas Points required for Classic Flight Rewards on Qantas, Jetstar and Qantas’ partner airlines, including Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Qatar Airways, Royal Air Maroc, Royal Jordanian, SriLankan Airlines, Fiji Airways, Air France, Air New Zealand, Air Tahiti Nui, Aircalin, Bangkok Airways, China Airlines, China Eastern, El Al Israel Airlines, Emirates, IndiGo, Jetstar, KLM, Latam Airlines, Oman Air, Solomon Airlines and WestJet.
Although there will be some minor decreases in Qantas Points required, most of these changes will result in increases up to 20%!
Although there have been no increases for some time, these are significant, especially considering that Qantas often charges more points for the same flight than other airline loyalty programs.
Lock In Your Flights Before Qantas Hikes the Price
If you have Qantas Points, all you can do is book all your flights before 5 August 2025, before most of your flights increase by up to 20%. This is not ideal if you have a large number of Qantas Points or have no travel plans.
If you currently have a direct earn credit card that directly earns Qantas Points, as we have previously advised it’s time to move on from this credit card and switch to a credit card that allows you to transfer your credit card loyalty points to a number of airline loyalty programs and not just one.
Transferring your credit card loyalty points to a number of airline loyalty programs is the key to paying up to 75% less when using points and miles for flights and is also the key to increasing the number of seats available to book when using those points and miles.
The Smart Traveller’s Strategy for Paying Less: What To Do From 5 August 2025?
If you have a credit card that allows you to transfer your credit card loyalty points to a number of airline loyalty programs or if you already have points and miles with a number of airline loyalty programs, you can easily beat this Qantas Points increase by using other airline loyalty programs to take the exact same flight.
As you are probably aware, for all flights there are a number of airline loyalty programs you can use to book these flights. Furthermore, each airline loyalty program charges a different number of points and miles. You can save big by simply using the airline loyalty program that is the cheapest.
As a Pointrs subscriber, all you need to do is search for your flight, and Pointrs will then tell you the cheapest airline loyalty program to use along with all other airline loyalty programs you can use. And if you don’t have enough points or miles, we’ll tell you how to earn those points and miles, including transferring them from other loyalty programs, buying them, earning them through the airlines or transferring them from other members’ accounts.
Real-Life Savings: Examples Of How Much You Can Save From 5 August 2025 By Not Using Qantas Points
Here’s just a few examples of thousands of how much you can save by not using Qantas Points to book your flight, and by using other airline loyalty program points and miles instead.
These examples show the number of Qantas Points required for a Classic Flight Reward from 5 August 2025 versus the number of points and miles required with other airline loyalty programs, using just a couple of examples. This assumes there is no change to the points and miles required with other airline loyalty programs before 5 August 2025.
