Get Ready For A (First Class) Suite Proposal!

Noah and his partner, Rania, are planning to fly from Melbourne to Kuala Lumpur to meet Rania's parents, who live there.

On the flight to Kuala Lumpur Noah plans to propose to Rania.

Noah has been earning and saving Virgin Australia Velocity Frequent Flyer Velocity Points so he can hopefully afford to fly business class to make the moment more special and memorable.

Noah is unsure how to use his Velocity Points to fly to Kuala Lumpur.

He is flexible on airlines and dates.

Noah currently has 723,000 Virgin Australia Velocity Frequent Flyer Velocity Points.

    How Personal Pointr #2 works

    Step 1 of 13

You can refer to Pointr #1093 to find out which airlines you can fly using Virgin Australia Velocity Frequent Flyer Velocity Points.

    Step 2 of 13

Looking at this Pointr, the simplest and most direct route from Melbourne to Kuala Lumpur is flying Singapore Airlines via Singapore. Unfortunately, there are no direct flights using Velocity Points.

    Step 3 of 13

Using your Velocity Points, you can fly Melbourne to Kuala Lumpur, via Singapore, for 67,000 points per person + taxes, fees and surcharges. You have more than enough points for these flights. Refer to Pointr #1125 for how to book using Virgin Australia Velocity Frequent Flyer Velocity Points.

    Step 4 of 13

Whilst Singapore Airlines business class is excellent, on their A380 aircraft they have, in our opinion and many others, the best first class in the world, with large suites that can be combined into a single extra-large suite and single beds that can be combined into one double bed for two. Coupled with unlimited quantities of the best champagne points can buy, there can be no better place, 40,000 feet in the air, for a marriage proposal. Unfortunately, Singapore Airlines first class cannot be booked using Velocity Points. Fortunately, we have a solution.

    Step 5 of 13

You can transfer Virgin Australia Velocity Frequent Flyer Velocity Points to Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer miles and then use Krisflyer miles to book Singapore Airlines first class suites on the A380.

    Step 6 of 13

You will need to transfer 480,500 Virgin Australia Velocity Frequent Flyer Velocity Points to 310,000 Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer miles. Refer to Pointr #1018 for how to do this.

    Step 7 of 13

If you do not have a Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer account, sign up for free.

    Step 8 of 13

The A380 only flies as far as Singapore. Hence, you will only book Melbourne to Singapore first class A380 using KrisFlyer miles and the remaining flights, Singapore to Kuala Lumpur and Kuala Lumpur to Melbourne via Singapore will be booked using Velocity Points. Even after using transferring 480,500 points to KrisFlyer, you have sufficient Velocity Points for these flights in any class including business class and booking through Velocity Frequent Flyer requires far fewer points than transferring and booking through KrisFlyer.

    Step 9 of 13

Once the miles are in your KrisFlyer account, book any A380 first class flight that suits, for 155,000 miles per person + taxes, fees and surcharges. Ensure that the aircraft is an A380 as only the A380 has the best first class suite.

    Step 10 of 13

During booking, select your seats, ensuring you select two adjacent suites that can be combined into one single suite. These are 1A & 2A or 1F & 2F. Do not select 3A or 3F.

    Step 11 of 13

When checking-in, let the customer service agent know that you have an onward flight to Kuala Lumpur on a separate ticket and ask that your luggage is checked all the way through to Kuala Lumpur. You may need to show this separate ticket.

    Step 12 of 13

With only 6 first class suites available on any flight, and currently only one A380 flying per day from Melbourne to Singapore, finding available award flights may be difficult, yet the effort will be very worthwhile.

    Step 13 of 13

    Here's hoping she says yes!
